Turmeric- famous Indian spice, which also is being called cure for cancer, heart and brain diseases. Mostly connected with ability to give dishes shades of golden colour.
Though being just a spice, it is packed with lots and lots antioxidants. So even if turmeric in a small amount doesn’t gives us many vitamins or minerals, it protects our body from diseases. Many studies show that turmeric shoud be considered not only in prophylaxis but also as a treatment for many civilization diseases.
So it is in our best interest to put it in our diet to keep our body strong and healthy.
My problem with turmeric was that I was only using it to colour the dishes and because it’s healthy. Powdered turmeric has no taste to me. So eventually I used it only from time to time. Everything changed when I bought a fresh root. So aromatic, a little like fresh ginger.
It all makes sense from now on. Fresh turmeric is now constantly used in my kitchen. I cook many Thai dishes where fresh root is a basic. I add it to my winter tea along with fresh ginger, lemon and beet syrup. And to smoothies, to boost my body with energy!
